Code Red [Chapter 3]

Code Red [chapter 21]

The flashes of the TV screen woke him up from his slumber, he didn’t bother to give attention to it, he knew what it was already; it was Code507 all over the news.

‘News headline! He strikes again, this time with a pen!’

‘Oh dear Lord the man is a beast! Can the police ever get him arrested?’

‘Get him arrested? that man should be shot dead on sight! He doesn’t deserve to live!’

He started towards his bathroom until it all became distant chatters.

The bathroom had an earthy feel. The walls were large format tiles of white honed travertine and the floor was made of dull brown tiles. The vanities were of dark wood and the counters were brilliant white quartz. There was no bath but instead a huge walk-in shower with two showerheads.

He stared intently at the mirror hanging on both sides of the wall as he wiped the dots of blood off his face and his side beards. The weather is extremely cold but he preferred to cool off with his shower.

Pictures of Mr. White’s ordeal flooded his mind. Is this the life he wanted? Clearly not! He tried to remember something, anything about his past but it was the same futile effort, it was blank.

Steadily he walked out of the bathroom and laid on his bed.

“Smith! Smith, take it and give it to my son, If I die today, tell him I was murdered by code507”

Mr. White’s last words reverberated in his head. He had a promise to fulfill.
He fitted into a double-breasted suit and chose from his fleet of cars to match the color of his suit.

Straightway he drove to Mr. White’s residence, it was heavily guided to ward off any further threat, but as usual, he had his own way to get in.

“Hey, how are you”

He whispered through the window pane to a young teen sobbing while he sat on a massive two sized bed.

The shock on the teen’s face was understandable, who would think of a well-suited man on a rooftop.

“May I?” He went on to ask.
A nod from the young teen mustered him in, he sat close and revealed the diamond watch he had in his possession.

“What’s your name?”

Jason replied with his eyes locked on the diamond watch in the stranger’s hands.

“Your father wanted you to have this, happy birthday”

Jason allowed the watch to fit into his wrist, he brought it close to his lips and kissed it, he was obviously livid.

“And he wanted you to know this, Code507 is responsible for his murder”

He continued staring intently at the kid who fumed in wrath.

“I know, it’s all over the news, I’m gonna kill him, I’m gonna kill code507”

Jason promised under his breathe.

” I know, maybe someday”

He responded and placed a gentle tap on Jason’s shoulder.

“Go get the door, someone has been trying to get in”

Jason wondered how he never heard a knock on the door, maybe he was engrossed at the moment. Jason hurried to see who it was, a good time for him to whisk out of the building.

‘I’m gonna kill him, I’m gonna kill code507’

Jason’s words replayed in his head as he drove. He knew his life should be better than this, but he could not help it, once the call is made, he has to do the job, there is no stopping it, he had no choice, it was like he is being predominated by someone.

He stopped the car abruptly in the middle of the road and made a sharp U-turn to a nearby bar. He apparently needed a bottle of beer.

“Oh my God, he is so cute!”

He overhead two girls gossiping as he alighted from his black colored Lamborghini. They stood just by the entrance to the bar.

He was walking towards them, it was too much that one passed out, leaving the other trembling with emotions.

“Hi, I am…”

But then, just before she exchanged formalities he walked past her into the bar. She should know getting involved with him is her ticket to the afterlife.

He picked a seat at the extreme end of the bar for a close window view. He was a few minutes into his first bottle of beer when he saw her; an angel in the spotlight, his salvation and his doom.
